PHOENIX, AZ — All-NBA Forward Kevin Durant is on his way to the Pheonix Suns. In a massive blockbuster deal between the Brooklyn Nets and the Pheonix Suns, the Nets send Kevin Durant and TJ Warren to the Suns for a package that includes dynamic forward Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four 1st-round draft picks, and a pick swap in 2028.
The superstar experiment in Brooklyn is officially over, as Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden all play for different teams. The trio played all of 16 games together before dysfunction, and off-court issues dismantled the team. James Harden asked for a trade last season, and the Nets traded Harden to the 76ers for Ben Simmons.
Kyrie Irving was the next piece moved after he also asked for a trade ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline. The Nets traded Irving to the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 6 for draft picks. The NBA superstar made his debut with the Mavericks against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Irving came under fire in late October 2022 for an antisemitic tweet. He has since apologized for the tweet and hopes to learn and move on from the situation.
Durant was the last piece in Brooklyn to fall, and he shouldered much of the dysfunction that his teammates brought the team. The Suns acquire Durant, 34, at a steep price, but as they are a team that has never won a championship, this might be their best shot to do so.
The All-NBA superstar joins Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton. The Suns are two years removed from their last title game against the Milwaukee Bucks. In that series, Giannis Antetokounmpo took over the series and won the Bucks’ first Championship title. Durant has not won since his time with the Golden State Warriors, but with his move to the Suns, they are now favorites to win the title this year.
