SAN ANGELO, TX — Several Concho Valley Basketball Teams saw action over the weekend and will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Here are last week’s results and today’s matchups.
SAN ANGELO CENTRAL BOBCATS (19-6)(1-2) AND LADY CATS (16-12)(3-2)
The Bobcats traveled to Midland on Friday, Jan. 20, to play the Midland High Bulldogs in Midland. Midland is one of the best teams in the district, and they proved that on Friday. The ‘Cats played the Bulldogs close throughout the contest, but the road matchup proved too tough for the Bobcats to overcome. Central fell 70-61.
Kollin Allbright led the ‘Cats with 20 points. Jacob English had 17 points, and Jaedyn Gipson added 11 points. Central moved to 1-2 in District 2-6A play and 19-6 overall. The Bobcats return to action against the Odessa High Bronchos (16-11)(1-2) in Odessa on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Cats had a completely different result in the early game. Central dominated the Lady Bulldogs throughout their game and took home a 70-28 victory. The Lady Cats extend their winning streak to three games and move to 3-2 in District 2-6A action. With the win, Central moves into 3rd place in district as they begin the second half of their season.
San Angelo Central (16-12)(3-2) travel to Odessa to play the Lady Bronchos on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
LAKE VIEW CHIEFS (6-18)(1-2) AND MAIDENS (2-20)(0-4)
The Lake View Chiefs fell in Levelland against the Lobos 62-27. RJ Bohannon led the Chiefs with 7 points. The Chiefs continue to play hard despite how challenging their opponents are in the district. Lake View hosts the Snyder Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in San Angelo. Snyder canceled school on Tuesday due to inclement weather, so the schools moved the games. Game time is still to be determined.
The Maidens also host the Snyder Lady Tigers tomorrow. Game time is still to be determined.
TLCA EAGLES (20-5)(6-1) VERSUS WALL HAWKS (12-8)(5-2)
In what could be the potential district championship matchup, the Wall Hawks hosted the TLCA Eagles in Wall on Friday, Jan. 20. The game remained close for the entire first half before the Eagles took over the third and fourth quarters to win comfortably by 15 points.
Luis Casillas led the Eagles with 10 points. Augden Hallmark led the Hawks with 15 points. Hallmark made five 3-point shots in the contest.
These teams meet again at TLCA on Feb. 14. The winner of that game will most likely become the district champion.
TLCA hosts the Jim Ned Indians at TLCA on Tuesday night. Tip-off is at 7:45 p.m. The Indians won their first matchup against the Eagles back in December, 44-35. TLCA had several players out due to sickness so expect a much better game from TLCA. The Eagles need this win to take first place in their district.
The Wall Hawks travel to Grape Creek to take on the Eagles on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Grape Creek always plays hard, but the Hawks are too steep of a hill to climb. The Hawks are heavy favorites in this game.
The Lady Hawks (21-4)(6-2) defeated the TLCA Lady Eagles (2-18)(0-7) 45-14 on Friday. Wall must continue to win district games to maintain second place in their district. If they have any hope for the district championship, they need a little help from the district’s other teams to take down Jim Ned.
The Lady Eagles play the early game in San Angelo tonight at 6:15 p.m. versus Jim Ned. Jim Ned is in first place and is the heavy favorite.
The Lady Hawks play the Grape Creek Lady Eagles in Grape Creek at 6:00 p.m.
CHRISTOVAL COUGARS (14-12)(5-2) AND LADY COUGARS (16-11)(8-1)
The Christoval Cougars fell to the Forsan Buffaloes on Friday 53-51. Road games are always a difficult challenge, and the Cougars almost pulled it off. They get another chance at the Buffaloes at home on Feb. 14.
The Lady Cougars dismantled the Lady Buffaloes 64-48. Christoval is 8-1 in district play and holds second place. The matchup between the Lady Cougars and Ozona is coming, and Christoval needs a win for a share of first place.
The Cougars and Lady Cougars host the Eldorado Eagles in Christoval on Tuesday night, with the girls starting at 6:30 p.m.
