AUSTIN, TX — The University of Texas Longhorns landed an impressive recruit on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Arch Manning, football royalty and nephew of Hall of Fame Quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, is taking his talents to Austin after he signed with the Longhorns.
Manning, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound star from Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans, is the son of Cooper Manning, who played wide receiver at Ole Miss.
A four-year starter at Newman, Manning threw for 8,599 yards and 115 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. He added 1,155 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground. He also broke his uncle Eli’s school record for passing yards (7,268) and his other uncle Peyton’s for touchdowns at 93.
Steve Sarkisian, Head Coach of the Texas Longhorns, began recruiting Manning four years ago while he coached at Alabama. He took the same approach when he moved over to Texas. Whatever Sarkisian talked about with the Manning family during those visits paid off as the no. 1 overall quarterback in 2023 committed to Texas as an early recruit and will set roots down in Austin in January.
Texas had three starting quarterbacks this season, Quinn Ewers, Casy Thompson, and Hudson Card. Injuries and sub-stellar performances at times will open up opportunities for Manning to compete for the starting job. Can Arch Manning develop into a quarterback that lives up to the monstrous legacy left behind by his family? Only time will tell.
