UIL State Championships Winners and Remaining Games!

 

ARLINGTON- It's the second day of the UIL State Championship is in the books and we have the winners!

On Wednesday, the Benjamin Mustangs, Westbrook Wildcats, and Albany Lions became State Champions! Here are their roads to AT&T Stadium!

The Mustangs beat the Loraine Bulldogs twice this season and shut out seven opponents. Benjamin scored 875 points this season to and only gave up 118 points. They 45’d twelve opponents this season which is the definition of dominant.

Both six-man teams played their state games today and while Benjamin was celebrating their victory, the Westbrook Wildcats were getting ready to take on the Abbott Panthers.

The Wildcats showed no mercy to the Panthers as they ended the game early by 45’ing Abbott, 69-24. This season, Westbrook only lost one game around the mid-way point to Garden City.

The night ended with the first 11-man game of the week where the Albany Lions convincingly beat the Mart Panthers 41-21.

The Lions went 14-2 this season and Head Coach Denny Faith, who has led the program for 36 years, finally got his state championship. The two losses were to out of division and/or classification opponents Hawley and Comanche. During realignment, the Lions were placed in a district with the Miles Bulldogs, so the Concho Valley even got a taste of how good this team was.

On Friday, the Hawley Bearcats returned to AT&T Stadium, the same site where they dropped the championship game last season to the Shiner Comanches. This season, there were two main differences, their opponent was the Refugio Bobcats and they had Austin Cumpton who was on the sidelines in 2021.
