WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks (9-1) enter the second round of the UIL Texas High School Playoffs 3A Division II after advancing by forfeit last week. The Hawks travel to Breckenridge to play the Childress Bobcats (7-4) on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.
Because of the forfeit last weekend against Tornillo, the Hawks essentially got an extra bye week. In an interview with Head Coach Houston Guy, he spoke on how Wall appreciated the extra rest but certainly did not want it. The coach said his team remains focused.
“We felt as good as we have all season long. We were hitting on all cylinders. Our defense was playing really sound, our offense was clicking, and our special teams looked great. You don’t want to take that bye week off.” Guy said they prepped last week like they had a game to play, so they should be ready to go.
The Childress Bobcats are a solid football team. This year they outscored their opponents 357-255. They dominated the competition in their district and deserved to sit in the second round of the playoffs. Guy spoke about how well the Bobcats play.
“They are scary good. Their offense and defensive line are really good…they are a very sound football club,” he said.
Regardless of how well Childress played towards the tail end of their season, the Wall Hawks are a different caliber of opponent. Specifically, on the defensive side of the ball, Wall is incredibly talented. They held their opponents to just 70 points all season while their offense scored 332 points.
Nathan Pepper leads the team on the ground with 799 yards on the ground on only 99 attempts. With an 8-yard-per-carry average, look for him to make an immediate impact.
Logan Thomas leads the Hawks on defense with 41 solo tackles and 57 tackles total. Do not expect Childress to move the ball if Wall's defense gets heated up.
We will be at the Wall vs. Childress game in Breckinridge at Buckaroo Stadium Friday night providing up-to-the-minute updates on the COVER1 live stream show at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
