LUBBOCK, TX- A week following an appeal that denied the Frenship Football Program's victory over San Angelo Central, Frenship ISD has announced today the retirement of Athletic Director Kenny Catney.
Catney has been with Frenship ISD since 2015 and has a career spanning 36 years. Catney was also the 1st full-time athletic director for Frenship.
Kenny Catney oversaw the expansion of Frenship athletics to include a wrestling team and improvements to the Frenship facilities.
Before his tenure at Frenship, Catney worked for Wichita Falls ISD where he was a soccer coach recording a 402-53-31 record and winning a state championship. He was also inducted into the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in 2015.
This announcement comes a week after Frenship had to forfeit a win over San Angelo Central for playing an ineligible player.
Catney's retirement will begin January 1, 2022. Meanwhile, Frenship ISD's search for a new AD will begin this week.
In a statement released by Frenship ISD acknowledged the district's appreciation for Catney's work and wished him the best.
