AREA BASEBALL: Lead Slips Through Lake View's Hands

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Things took a turn for the worst in the fifth inning for the Lake View Chiefs in a 14-4 loss against the Big Spring Steers on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Lake View's Connor Robinson capitalized on a wild pitch, came home and put Lake View on the board.

In the very next inning, Ryan Avalos got an in field home run, driving in two runs for the Chiefs to take a 4-1 lead.

But the tables soon turned in the fifth inning as the Chiefs could not hold onto their lead against the Steers.

Big Spring's Kobe Guitterrez drove in two RBIs lighting a fire for the rest of the Steers as there was a consistency of hits throughout the fifth.

“We didn’t come out and execute a shut down inning and we let it get away from us” Lake View head coach Chad Kinney said.

Two pitching changes and 7 runs later the Chiefs are finally able to get some outs ending the fifth inning 12-4

Big Spring held the Chiefs to their four runs to end the game 14-4.

Lake View (7-15, 1-3) will travel to Midland Greenwood this Friday.

Nino, Central Walk Off Against Fort Worth Richland

An RBI single from Oscar Nino sent Central fans home happy at Nathan Donsky Field on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Fort Worth Richland.

Nino drove in Kyson Snelson in the bottom of the seventh inning after Central was down to their final out of the inning and staring down extra innings.

Central fell down 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Nixon Brannon pulled one run back with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. He would tie the game in the fifth with another RBI single.

Brannon finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and was the only Bobcat to finish with a multi-hit game. Nino's walk-off single was his only hit of the day, as he finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Trey Neslage got the start, but not the winning decision for Central despite going 6.2 innings where he allowed just two runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Gunner Couch closed out the seventh inning with a strikeout to get Central to home half of the inning.

Central (16-10-1) will look to sweep Richland on the road this Friday.

No. 2 Wall Inches Near Playoff Berth in Run Rule Win Over Brady

The second-ranked Wall Hawks' magic number to clinch a playoff berth shrank to two after a 12-2 win over Brady in five innings on Tuesday.

Wall, who faces Sonora (11-5, 3-4) this Saturday, can clinch a playoff berth as early as Saturday because a win and a loss from Sonora would put the Broncos out of contention for first place in 4-3A.

The high-flying Hawks were seemingly held in check after scoring just two runs in the first inning. The Hawks then plated four runs in the second and five runs in the third to pull out to an 11-1 lead heading into the fourth frame.

Tanner Seider highlighted the two explosive innings with a three-run home run in the third inning. That would be Seider's only hit of the game.

Ryan Gully and Jake Jansa each had a pair of RBIs and were the only other Hawks to have multi-RBI games. Gully finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and Jansa was 1-for-3.

Walker Bauer and Kasen Baronet each had a hit and an RBI in the loss for Brady. Caleb Galindo and Marshall Schmitz had Brady's two other hits on the day.

Caleb Heuertz picked up the win on the bump after throwing five innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. Baronet took the loss for Brady after allowing six runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Wall (22-0, 7-0) travels to Sonora this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matinee. Brady (10-10-1, 4-3) hosts TLCA this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Winters Cruises Past Early Deficit, Goldthwaite for Win

The Winters Blizzards completed a steady comeback against the Goldthwaite eagles thanks to a steady scoring throughout the game.

The first inning seemed to be trouble for the Blizzards as Goldthwaite managed to put up five runs.

It all started after the first batter was hit by a pitch, then a sacrifice bunt, and then two singles that brought in three runs. Omar Ochoa then walked three batters in a row which led to Winters trailing 5-0 at the end of the inning.

Winters wasn't able to get on the board until multiple Blizzards got on base by singles and then score off of errors by the Eagles. This shaved the deficit down to one for the Blizzards.

They continued to keep that pace in the fifth inning. Trent Hamilton hit a huge double that brought in three people. The Blizzards took the lead at 8-5.

The Blizzards went into the sixth inning ready to put the Eagles away. They scored four more runs after Hamilton hit a grounder that left two people on base for Alex Salas to hit a three run home run. This extended their lead to 12-5.

The Eagles attempted to regain their lead in the bottom of the sixth by scoring off of a double and two singles. This was not enough though as the Blizzards took the victory 12-8.

Trent Hamilton went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Alex Salas went went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, one home run, and two run.

Winters (9-3, 5-1) will host Gorman on Friday.
