WATCH: Central's Fourth Straight Title Marked by Defense, Senior Leadership

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Central Lady Cat soccer team has clinched at least a share of their fourth straight district title. The latest in their stellar run has been thanks to a stout defense and senior leadership.

Central has conceded just one goal all season. In 19 starts, senior goalkeeper Megan White has kept all would-be goal scorers at bay. The recent Faulkner University commit chalks that up to her teammate's help.

"It's all together. It's a whole team thing," White said. "We have our backs really well. I mean, if I mess up, they have me. If they mess up, I have them too. And we've gotten lucky, we've had a few [shots] dink off the post."

Along with White, three defenders and two defensive mildfielders are also seniors. In head coach Benjamin Henry's eyes, that senior leadership has led to Central's unbeaten run over 20 matches.

"[Megan's] leadership has always been great," Henry said. "She doesn't like to be scored on ... She's fearless, she doesn't care, she throws her body pretty much anywhere. The girls love her, they back her up. They don't want her to be scored on.

"That whole defensive side is all geared in for one goal and that's to not let anyone score on them. We start with defending. So, our whole team defends. It's not just the keeper, back four and [midfield] holders."

Central only needs a draw at Weatherford on Tuesday to lock up the outright title and the first seed from District 3-6A. While the Lady Cats would be happy with a draw, Henry says that's not what his team is going for.

"That's really what we're shooting for is that first seed," Henry said. "We're gonna go try and win it. If we tie, we tie and hopefully win it in a shootout ... I don't really ever play for a draw. We're gonna go try and take care of business. If it falls that way, it falls that way."

Central and Weatherford are scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. match on Tuesday.
