Hawks Fall to Brock for Second Straight Year

ABILENE, TX— The Wall Hawks' season came to an end much like it did last year, a loss to rival Brock in the third round of the playoffs.

The start of the game was all defense with Brock going three-and-out. 

Wall got the ball and converted on a huge fourth-and-inches, but Mason Fuchs threw an interception on his own 30-yard line. 

The Hawks defense then returned the favor by recovering a fumble on the second play of the drive. This fumble resulted in a three-and-out for Wall. 

After the punt, the Eagles looked as if they were going to run all the way down the field, but after a 41-yard play action pass by Takota Taylor to Jake Teskey they took the lead 7-0. 

The offense was very stale in the first quarter for Wall as they were forced to another three and out to close the quarter at 7-0. 

In the second quarter Wall threw the ball with a lot more frequency than usual. Fuchs found Hunter Teplicek for a 32-yard gain and then Coleman Coon for an 18-yard gain. 

Unfortunately for the Hawks they went for it on fourth down on the 22-yard line and came up short. 

When Brock got the ball after the stop it seemed that Wall would get a stop after a chop block penalty that made Brock start with 1 and 25. Toby Morrison for the Eagles could not be stopped as he average over 8 yards a carry for the drive. Brock then recieved a block in the back call on a huge 40 yard run which made it seem as if Wall could get off the field. 

Morrison ended up capping off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown and to get a 14-0 lead at half. 

To start the the second half, Fuchs tried to pitch it out to Chase Rios and fumbled the ball. The Eagles then turned around and handed the ball to Teskey for a 15-yard touchdown. 

The Hawks looked alive on the next drive though as Sutton Braden broke out a run for a 66-yard touchdown. 

The Hawks then forced a fumble on third down, but unfortunately the ball rolled out of bounds just inches away from the Hawk defenders.

Wall's defense gave up a a big pass play, but earned another fumble which gave them great field position on their 47-yard line. 

Wall's offense was moving the ball after a huge 12-yard run by Fuchs, but after a call that seemed to be offsides by the defense turned into a holding by the offense, they ended up having to punt. 

Brock scored on this drive with a 16-yard rush by Corben Milton to bring the lead at the end of the third quarter 28-7. 

Walls offensive was producing big plays on this drive with a 28-yard Fuchs to Coleman reception, followed by a 19 yard run from Braden, and a 19 yard touchdown by Mason Kindle. With a missed two-point conversion the score was 28-13. 

“We will eventually find something that works,” Wall head coach Houston Guy said of the second half offense. “I thought we played good defense, but we didn’t sustain drives on offense.”

Wall’s defense never gave up and it was shown as they got a third down stop late, but on fourth down, Brock faked a punt to keep their drive alive. Milton ran a 23-yard touchdown to end the game.  

This season, Wall won a district championship through adversity, whether it was injuries or youth.

“There was a lot of question marks at the start of the season,” Guy said. “We ended up winning a district championship with a lot of kids that stepped up because of injuries and it says a lot about our team."

Brock will play Shallowater next week.
