Lake View Defense Dominates in Commanding Win over Fort Stockton

FORT STOCKTON, TX — The Lake View Chiefs traveled to Fort Stockton on Friday night to kick off the 2026 football season. Senior quarterback Chris Alvizo had himself a game, throwing three touchdown passes, and the Chiefs’ defense forced six turnovers, including a safety and an interception returned for a touchdown, on the way to a Lake View victory, 41-19.

“I thought our boys answered the call and played well,” head coach Hector Guevara said after the game. “We put ourselves in a couple bad situations, but we stuck together and fought through it.”

The Chiefs never trailed in the contest, finishing the game with three unanswered touchdowns in the second half.

“We just have to keep getting better,” Guevara continued. “Proud of the boys and proud of the effort. They never gave up, stuck together and played selfless football. That says a lot about their character.”

Not much action happened early on as both teams traded turnovers throughout the early part of the first quarter. Lake View forced a fumble later in the quarter to set up the first score of the ballgame. Alvizo connected with Chris Rodea on a 12-yard touchdown pass to give the Chiefs a 7-0 advantage headed to the 2nd quarter.

In the 2nd, Fort Stockton battled back after a failed 4th-down conversion from the Chiefs. Fort Stockton’s Mason May broke through the line on a 30-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown. The Panthers missed the extra point to leave the score 7-6 early in the 2nd quarter.

The Chiefs scored again later in the quarter after Aiden Rivera took the ball into the end zone from 29 yards out. Lake View’s defense then shut down Fort Stockton to force a punt. Connor Williams broke through the line and blocked the punt. The ball rolled out of the end zone and the play resulted in a safety. Lake View led 16-6 with less than five minutes to go in the half.

Alvizo hit his second touchdown of the evening to Rodela with under two minutes to play in the 2nd quarter. The 10-yard touchdown extended the Chiefs lead to 22-6 after a missed extra point.

Fort Stockton refused to roll over. The Panthers scored again with 18 seconds left to pull back within ten points before halftime. Lake View led at the break 22-12.

Points came at a premium for much of the second half. After Fort Stockton scored on its opening 3rd quarter drive, neither defense budged until near the end of the third. Lake View finally broke through on a 16-yard Alvizo touchdown pass to Andrew Young. Leading 29-12 entering the 4th quarter, the Chiefs never looked back.

Noah Cook jumped on the stat sheet with a touchdown run in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach, but it was the Chiefs’ defense that took over.

Lake View would force three more takeaways in the second half, including a game-sealing interception return for a touchdown by Isaiah Fuentes with less than three minutes to play.

Alvizo kneeled out the remaining time on the clock, and Lake View moved to 1-0 with a 41-19 victory.

Next up, the Chiefs return to San Angelo to host the Snyder Tigers on Friday, Sept. 4. Kickoff in that matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m.
