Central's Bozarth Named 3-6A Coach of the Year; 14 Lady Cats Tabbed in All-District

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Central Lady Cat volleyball team had an outstanding season on the hardwood, finishing with a 31-7 record overall in their new metroplex district.

The members of District 3-6A took notice of that and named head coach Connie Bozarth Coach of the Year in their All-District honors.

It was the fourth time under Bozarth that the Lady Cats won over 30 games in a season. However, their season ended sooner than expected with a loss to Trimble Tech in the Bi-District round of playoffs.

All the credit to the successful season for Central can't fall solely on their head coach. That was reflected with eight players earning a spot on the All-District teams and 12 Lady Cats making the Academic All-District team.

Three Lady Cats were tabbed to the All-District 3-6A first team. Another three earned second team honors. Two were placed on honorable mention.

Seniors Trinity Southall and Abbie Rivera, along with junior Veronica Guerrero were the three named to the first team.

Southall was lethal at the net in her 100 sets played by recording a .298 hitting percentage and 397 kills in her final season. The senior hitter was also third on the team in blocks with 26. She was one of the 12 named to the Academic All-District team.

Rivera was an all-around weapon for Central with 162 kills, 39 aces, 25 blocks and 255 digs in 100 sets this season. She was also named to the Academic All-District team.

Guerrero, who also earned academic honors, had the toughest serve for opponents to handle in 2018. The junior led the team in aces with 68. She was also second on the team in digs with 270 in 99 sets played.

Earning second team honors were seniors Kirsten Gomez, Addi Bonaventure and Anastasia Candela.

Gomez was second on the team in kills with 197 in 95 sets played. The senior also led the team in blocks with 42.

Bonaventure did a tremendous job as the Lady Cats' libero this season. She tallied 355 digs this season. Bonaventure was also tabbed with academic honors.

Candela was second on the team in aces with 45. She also had 178 digs on the year.

Sophomore Steely Poss and junior Chelsea Weldon were the two Lady Cats selected to honorable mention.

Poss was third on the teams in kills with 164 in 100 sets played. Weldon was second on the team in blocks with 32. Both earned All-District honors.

The other six who earned academic honors were Sierra Bradley, Caroline Dethloff, Clara Knapp, Presley Knowlton, Mya Moore and Sarah Olson.
