SAN ANGELO, TX-- Week 10 starts tonight with a lot on the line for area teams.
Some teams are looking to clinch a district championship or stay in the running for one. Others are fighting for their playoff lives.
Here are the three players you need to keep an eye on tonight in the Concho Valley:
Jared Flores, Sr., QB, Miles
Flores and the Bulldogs host District 8-2A Division II front runner Christoval tonight.
In order to pull the upset and give Miles a chance at their first district championship in 18 years, Flores will need to step up.
Miles was able to rely on senior RB Mason Bryan early in the season. As district play has progressed, Flores has opened up to be another weapon out of the backfield for the Bulldogs.
In Miles' big win over Menard, Flores led the Bulldogs with 127 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 17 carries.
If he has that type of performance against Christoval's stout defense, which has allowed just 26 points in district play, it will spell well for Miles.
Chase Rios, So., RB, Wall
The Wall Hawks haven't let the injury bug's bite get to them in 2018. That's thanks to a mature group of underclassmen led by Rios.
Rios has been patient over the last few weeks, doing what he can to help Wall win. In last week's 41-21 win over Eastland, Rios excelled.
The 5-foot-9 back broke out for 153 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the crucial district win.
Rios has accounted for 428 yards and seven touchdowns on 52 carries. He has also caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Through the first two games, Wall relied on Mason Fuchs and Sutton Braden. Along with his fellow underclassmen, Rios makes Wall's backfield incredibly lethal.
If Rios can continue to be as reliable as he's been for the Hawks this week against Breckenridge, Wall could clinch their eighth consecutive district championship.
Jovan Young, Jr., QB, Winters
Winters is a win away from clinching their first back-to-back playoff appearances since 2010-2011. That was on the back end of six straight playoff appearances.
Their upward trend from 2017 to 2018 should be attributed to Young and his command of Winters' option-based offense.
The triple option is centered around a quarterback in a way that is uncommon in the age of the spread offense. The quarterback has to recognize a defense in a fraction of a second to make the decision who to give the ball to.
Young has done that tremendously this season and has led the Blizzards to the most wins under Matt McCarty (6).
Ozona, Winters' week 9 opponent, has been susceptible throughout the year and could give Young a chance to break out like he did against Bangs in week 3.
Young posted 234 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 17 carries in that win.
