Lady Cats Run Rampant on Senior Day

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Central Lady Cats ran through the Killeen Shoemaker Lady Greywolves on their Senior Night to earn a commanding 19-0 victory.

“We took advantage of a situation where their pitcher got hurt and their second pitcher stuggled,” said Lady Cats Head Coach Paull Millsap. ““In a way we’re disappointed because it doesn’t do us much good preparing for the playoffs. Not the game we wanted.”

The Lady Cats got their offense going early in the first inning when Sanchez brought in Ochiunag on a line drive single to left fields, but It was a monster second inning by the Lady Cats that allowed them to secure the victory.

Sydnie Gilbert, Emily Sanchez, Destini Robles, Micaiah Howell, Kayla Subia, and Katheryne Herrera each added RBI’s in the inning where the Lady Cats put up 13 runs.

Micaiah Howell led the Lady Cats going 2-for-3 with four RBI’s and a run scored. Sydnie Gilbert and Emily Sanchez each added a hit, two runs, and three RBI’s.

Bailey Fulps shut out the Greywolves allowing just two hits in four innings of work to earn the victory. Fulps was dominant on the mound as she overpowered Shoemaker in route to eight strikeouts.

The Greywolves were unlucky in the ballgame with their starting pitcher Maddie Martinez having to leave the game early. Martinez started the game but only lasted one inning, giving up one run in a losing effort.

Megan Wilson struggled to keep the game close allowing 18 runs on six hits and 13 walks. Wilson lasted two inning throwing 101 pitches before the game was called.

Although Central came out with a commanding victory it was not as competitive as Coach Millsap would have liked. Coach Millsap stated “Obviously we want to win, but if it was a little more competitive I think it would have prepared us for next week a little better.”

Central (13-8-2, 9-5) will look to take their momentum to Wells Field at Abilene Christian University against South Grand Prairie.
