The San Angelo Bandits arena football team have acquired a new quarterback, who the Bandits organization refers to as their “gunslinger”.
Tyrik Rollison, who led Sulphur Springs High School to a Texas 4-A Division II state championship and set records at Texas A&M Commerce, has signed to help lead the Bandits in the 2016 season.
“We’re excited to bring in a quarterback like Tyrik,” said General Manager and Head Coach Meadow Lemon. “He’s got all the physical tools to play in this league and has led teams to winning seasons everywhere he’s been. We look forward to seeing what he can do in a Bandits uniform.”
Rollison (6’2”, 225) was ranked as the No. 11 quarterback prospect in the nation coming out of high school and redshirted at Auburn University in the SEC in 2009 before ending up at Texas A&M-Commerce. There, he threw for 12 touchdown passes in six games as a junior and opened national eyes as a senior when he began the season with 546 yards and six touchdowns in a 98-20 win over East Texas Baptist University.
He went on to throw for 33 touchdown passes in leading the Lions to a 9-3 record and a Heart of Dallas Bowl victory.
The Bandits also signed a pair of 6’3” receivers by signing Ricardo Johnson and Michael Allen to catch passes in 2016.
“Both of these guys bring a lot of versatility to the team,” said General Manager and Head Coach Meadow Lemon. “They both have experience as blockers and have proven they have great hands as well. These guys are going to be weapons in both the passing and run game for us.”
Allen (6’3”, 228) was named a first-team tight end by OklahomaSports.net as a senior at East Central Oklahoma University, where he caught 53 passes for 619 yards and two touchdowns in his career. The versatile Allen also played as a fullback and tight end, even returning one kickoff for 14 yards. This will be his first year playing professional football.
Johnson (6’3”, 210) also played tight end in college, catching 54 passes for 637 yards and six touchdowns at Graceland University. Last year he played with the IFL’s Green Bay Blizzard, where he caught two passes for 16 yards in limited action.
San Angelo Bandits host their first home game Mar. 12 in the Foster Communications Coliseum against the Dodge City Law. For season ticket information, see sabandits.com.
