Dylan Parsee loves football, and started his first run with it when he was 6 years old, going on 7. That love of football started because of a family tradition—a tradition Parsee hopes to continue, especially after receiving offers from three Texas colleges where he can move on to the next stage of his career.
“I feel it was meant to happen because all the males growing up around me were football players and athletes, and I just felt like that was the role I had to pick up. I just had to,” said Parsee.
This young man, now a senior who plays defensive end for the Central High School Bobcats Varsity football team, said he has received three offers from Stephen F. Austin, University of Incarnate Word and University of Texas, El Paso. For now, he said he's committed to SFA, but he hasn’t made any other recruiting decisions as of yet.
Parsee’s mother, Dameeka Brown, said she is extremely excited and blessed that her son has had three offers to continue playing the sport he loves while getting an education.
“I tell him all the time that not everyone has the opportunity to continue playing at the next level while getting a degree, and not having student loan debt either,” Brown added. “I would like to thank the coaches for all they do in getting film out to the prospective colleges.
Brown also said her family has helped get Parsee to where he’s at today.
“Dylan has always looked up to his cousin Tavion Ritche, who also wore the number 6 while playing football for Central, has pushed Dylan to work harder; and, it’s the reason he also wears the number 6 jersey,” Brown stated.
Although college is something great to look forward to, Parsee, for now, is focused on the here and now. Along with the rest of the team, this Number 6 player is ready for tonight’s game against El Paso Americas at the Midland Grande Communications Stadium. The Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility at the Sharbauer Sports Complex, 5514 Champions Dr.
Central last played against the El Paso Americas in a first-round playoff in 2004, and this 6A area playoff game begins at 7:30 p.m.
“It’s such a great experience to know I get to play in such a big game like this.” Parsee stated. “I think we’re playing with a chip on our shoulder, and we’re playing a real sound defense. We’re playing fast and swarming into the ball. Offensively, I feel we’re running the ball real well, and of course passing the ball good.”
Brown too said she can’t wait for tonight. These playoff games are the last she’ll see her only son and his team play during his high school career.
“The team has done so great this year,” Brown said. “The boys work very well together. It’s so exciting to see the boys win, especially when it’s against Odessa Permian (MOJO), and against teams from the metropolis who tend to have so much talent. I think people think since this is West Texas that we can’t compete with metropolitan teams, but I think our boys have shown that they are capable of holding their own.”
Holding their own is exactly what Football Coach Brent Davis said he hopes happens on that field tonight. He stated that the team is “revved” right now because they’re hoping to go farther in the playoffs.
“We’ve made it this far a few times already, so we’re looking forward to a good game [tonight], and taking care of business,” Coach Davis said.
The Coach also stated that he hopes the boys focus on the aesthetics of football.
“We’re a pretty good team when we don’t turn the ball over, or have a lot of penalties,” he added. “What we’re looking for is to execute our offense and defense without mistakes. I feel if we can do that, we’ll be successful.”
Davis said if the Bobcats make it to the next round, the team will play the winner of Southwest Carroll and Denton Guyer.
“If we can get through this, that’s who will play next,” he noted.
Coach Davis also wanted to let the San Angelo fans know he appreciates all the support they have given the team this year.
“If they come to Midland, they’ll see a good football game and keep supporting the Bobcats; and, we’ll see if we can’t bring back the W,” Davis stated.
Coach Brent McCallie, the Athletic Director of the San Angelo Independent School District, said tickets are on sale at the SAISD Administration building, 1621 University. Pre-sale tickets are available through noon today, and they're $8 for adults and $4 for students. At the gate, everything is $10.
