Wall Hawks Fall to Cameron Yoe 35-14 in State 2A Championship

 

The Wall High School Hawks fell to Cameron Yoe in the Texas UIL State 2A Division 1 championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Thursday,

Early in the first quarter, Wall proved that they could move the ball with their triple-option Flexbone formation, but Yoe proved to be as nimble. The teams were tied at the half at 14.

Yoe took the lead early in the fourth quarter while Wall was unable to score. The Yoe offense took control for the remainder of the game, scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth.

Wall suffered from three turnovers and Yoe held on to the ball all game. Yoe won 35-14.

Wall rushed for 279 yards, led by Brent Matschek with 107 on seven carries. 

“To come out at shut down that [Wall] offense in the second quarter was a great accomplishment for our guys,” Yoe coach Rick Rhodes said in a postgame interview.

Wall played very well against a formidable opponent. At the end of the game, both teams gathered on the field and shared in an astonishing show of sportsmanship. They prayed.

The Wall Hawks played with class all year and it showed at Jerry's House last night. I was so proud of the kids and coaching staff for all going to center field with the Cameron Team and kneeling and giving thanks to God for a great competition. A big thank you to Coach Guy and staff for a great year!
