Fire Destroys Volney Street Building; SAFD Demolishes Structure Over Collapse Concerns

SAN ANGELO, TX — A structure fire early Wednesday morning led to the full demolition of a building at 1819 Volney St. after San Angelo firefighters determined it was at risk of collapse, according to a statement from the San Angelo Fire Department.

SAFD was dispatched at about 7:14 a.m. on Dec. 3. San Angelo police also responded to assist with traffic and crowd control. No injuries were reported.

Five engine companies, two medic units, a rescue truck, a battalion chief and a ladder company were sent to the scene. Multiple SAPD units also responded.

Fire officials said the building was torn down due to safety concerns related to structural instability following the fire.
