Chadbourne Harris Intersection Gets Official Opening Date; Public Meeting Set

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Harris Avenue intersection on Chadbourne Street is scheduled to fully reopen to traffic Monday, Sept. 28, city officials said Friday.

The intersection will remain closed over the weekend of Sept. 26 for the Downtown San Angelo Block Party. Officials encouraged visitors to walk through and look at the new decorative intersection.

The city will host a public meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in the East Mezzanine on the first floor of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. The meeting will cover College-Chadbourne intersection work, upcoming phases and expected timelines, followed by a question-and-answer session. The public is invited.

Work at the Harris intersection began ahead of schedule Aug. 12. Officials said Blaine’s parking lot driveway, the intersection corners, all crosswalks, the center star, and curbing and concrete between the curbs and sidewalk on the east side of Harris Avenue are complete. Concrete paving of the driving lanes is expected to be finished this week. Construction remains on schedule for completion the week of Sept. 21.

Work at the College Avenue intersection is expected to begin the week of Sept. 28. Traffic will have full access from the south up to College Avenue.

On the Beauregard Avenue-to-Harris Avenue section, fencing is installed. Street lighting remains scheduled for October or the weeks immediately afterward. Turning-lane striping is expected to allow that stretch to open soon.

The Harris Avenue-to-College Avenue section is open to traffic from the north. Barricades are set at the south-side parking-lot driveways by the Harris intersection, including a church parking lot. Drivers can make a U-turn or exit through the lot if needed. Turning-lane striping will be added after the Harris intersection is complete. Parking striping will be applied later in the project when thermoplastic markings are installed. Street lighting for this section will be installed with the next section.
