Texas Adds Over 40k Jobs in June to Set New Employment Record

AUSTIN, TX — Texas added 43,400 nonfarm jobs in June, pushing the state's total employment to a record 14.47 million jobs, according to labor market data released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

The state reached a new high of 14,469,600 total nonfarm jobs during the month, while adding 177,900 jobs over the past year. Texas also outpaced the national annual job growth rate, according to the governor's office.

"Texas is where the American dream lives," Gov. Greg Abbott said. "Because in Texas, freedom is a magnet for innovation and prosperity is the reward for hard work. That is why jobs grow in Texas and why Texas continues to lead for business investment and population growth. With the best business climate and strongest workforce in the nation, Texas' robust jobs economy will fuel expanded opportunity for generations of Texans to come."

The Texas Workforce Commission reported that 15,203,600 Texans were working in June, including self-employed workers.

The state's labor force also reached 15,904,900 people, an increase of 29,700 over the previous 12 months.

Abbott said the latest employment figures reflect Texas' continued economic growth and business expansion.

The jobs report comes one day after the governor announced that Saronic Technologies Inc. plans to build Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard at the Port of Brownsville.

According to the governor's office, the $3.248 billion project is expected to become the nation's largest shipyard and will manufacture medium- and large-class autonomous and autonomy-capable vessels. The facility is projected to create 10,000 jobs.

The June employment data marks another monthly jobs record for Texas as the state continues to lead the nation in population growth and business investment, according to the governor's office.
