SAN ANGELO, TX — Residents should expect multiple test alerts Thursday as the City of San Angelo participates in a coordinated statewide alert and warning drill.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management announced the drill, scheduled for April 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Officials said the test will evaluate the effectiveness and functionality of local public warning systems.“No action required,” city officials said in a public notice Wednesday.
The statewide exercise is intended to ensure accurate and timely communication during disasters and emergencies. TDEM has asked local jurisdictions, emergency management agencies, school districts, universities and other entities with alerting capability to participate using their primary, alternate and contingency systems.
“Regular training and testing of public warning systems builds readiness before disaster strikes and is an important component of community safety,” Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said in a statement. “Conducting drills to reaffirm procedures, promote confidence in technological tools, and identify potential shortfalls is key to ensuring these systems operate with precision, accuracy, and timeliness when they are needed the most.”
TDEM said participating organizations should provide a summary and key takeaways to state officials after the drill is complete.
