SAN ANGELO, TX — The second phase of the Chadbourne Street reconstruction project in downtown San Angelo is set to begin Monday, Jan. 5, launching a roughly two-year construction effort that will rebuild a major corridor from Beauregard Avenue to the Loop 306 frontage road.
City Council has approved a $13.2 million contract with Reece Albert Inc. for Phase B of the project, which will continue the design and streetscape improvements established during Phase A. The initial phase reconstructed Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to the Concho River. The city has also received a $5 million grant to help offset project costs.
Phase B includes full reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure along South Chadbourne Street. Planned improvements include decorative lamp posts, benches, bicycle racks and trash receptacles, along with rebuilt intersections and crosswalks intended to improve safety and accessibility.
Construction will proceed one section at a time to limit disruptions, and access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Work is expected to take approximately 24 months.
The first road closure will affect Chadbourne Street from just north of Beauregard Avenue to just south of College Avenue beginning Jan. 5 and continuing through early May 2026. Harris Street may experience intermittent closures to through traffic during that period.
Businesses within the closure area will remain open, and access will be provided during construction.
