SAN ANGELO, TX — A month after delaying demolition of the former Sam Houston campus for community input, the San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees will again consider the project when it meets at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the district administration building, 1621 University Ave.
Trustees will review a proposal to demolish the long-vacant Sam Houston Elementary campus, which the board tabled in September to allow residents to share ideas for future use of the property. At the time, Trustee Karla Cardenas said she hoped the pause would give community members “an opportunity to make an impact there in the barrio.”
In addition to the Sam Houston item, trustees will discuss construction delivery methods for Fannin Elementary and review a construction manager-at-risk agreement for major 2025 bond projects at Glenn, Central, and Lake View High School.
The meeting will begin with an invocation from Sam Torres, pastor at San Angelo First, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Goliad Elementary students.
Recognitions will include Fire Prevention Poster Contest winners, National Principals Month honorees, and the district’s recent award from the Association of School Business Officials for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Trustees will hear public comments before convening a Finance and Audit Committee workshop, which will cover September bills and accounts, monthly and quarterly investment reports, the annual investment report, and the August tax collection report.
Information items include updates on bond construction progress, student demographics, transfer trends, and long-term district property discussions.
Under consent items, the board will vote on minutes from previous meetings, approve investment training providers and brokers, adopt the local investment policy, and accept quarterly and annual investment reports. Other approvals include contracts and bids for maintenance and transportation supplies, data cabling and audiovisual installation, new and used vehicles, and the purchase of yellow school buses.
Additional action items include consideration of targeted improvement plans, adjunct faculty agreements with Texas A&M AgriLife, administrator employment restrictions under HB 3372, innovative courses, a request for sanctions on an educator’s certificate for contract abandonment, and library book purchases.
The meeting will conclude with announcements of upcoming sessions, including a pre-agenda workshop on Nov. 10 and the next regular board meeting on Nov. 17.
