SAN ANGELO, TX — A national protest movement called “No Kings” is organizing a rally in San Angelo on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Civic League Park from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is part of a coordinated series of demonstrations across all 50 states — and in parts of Mexico and Canada — on the same day. The “No Kings” movement, which began in June with protests marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and former President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, describes itself as a peaceful call to resist “would-be kings” and defend democratic values.
According to the group’s official event page, the San Angelo gathering is a volunteer-organized visibility event. Organizers say participants will “stand up against chaos, corruption, and cruelty” and emphasize that the movement’s core principle is nonviolence. Attendees are asked not to bring weapons, even those legally permitted, and to act lawfully during the event.
The “No Kings” movement’s slogan, “Power belongs to the people,” has been used in protests nationwide. Demonstrations are also scheduled in larger Texas cities such as Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston, as well as smaller towns including Alpine and San Angelo.
In Austin, the rally drew national attention after former President Trump objected to the event and threatened legal action against the city for potentially waiving a $120,000 event fee. Despite his objections, city officials confirmed the protest will continue as planned.
