FREDERICKSBURG, TX — A Fredericksburg convenience store received a $250,000 bonus Wednesday for selling one of two winning tickets for the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot — the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.
Big’s 103, located at 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290, was presented with a ceremonial check by the Texas Lottery under its retailer bonus program. Representatives from Big’s and the Texas Lottery gathered to celebrate the milestone.
“Behind every winning ticket is a network of dedicated retailers who help make these historic moments possible,” said Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the Texas Lottery.
The winning ticket in Texas matched all six numbers drawn on Sept. 6: 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and Powerball 17. A second jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Missouri, and the two winners will split the Grand Prize.
The Texas player, who has not yet claimed the prize, selected the cash value option and is set to receive $410.3 million before taxes. The winner has 180 days from the draw date to come forward.
Powerball jackpots begin at $20 million and roll over until a jackpot is won. Players match five numbers from a pool of 69 and one Powerball number from a pool of 26 to win the Grand Prize.
The Texas Lottery operates through more than 19,000 retailers statewide and has contributed more than $35.5 billion to public education through the Foundation School Fund since 1997. It also supports veterans’ programs across Texas.
