SAN ANGELO, TX — Crisis counseling and unemployment assistance is available to those struggling after the recent Central Texas flooding that took place from July 2nd through July 18th, according to FEMA.
FEMA funds the crisis counseling program, which is managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program provides counseling to residents of Burnet, Kerr, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson counties.
The Disaster Distress Helpline is also available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. This line is a toll-free, national crisis support service, and those in need can call or text 800-985-5990 to speak to trained staff who can provide them with confidential counseling and other support services.
The staff can also connect callers with professionals at the nearest participating crisis-counseling center for additional support.
FEMA also funds the Disaster Unemployment Assistance program for those who find themselves without a job or with lost income due to the recent flooding. This program is managed by the Texas Workforce Commission.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance is also available to business owners and those who are self-employed. Those looking to apply for unemployment benefit services have until Thursday, Sept. 4, to apply online at this link or by calling 800-939-6631.
