San Angelo Flood Worker’s Posts From Hill Country Go Viral

CENTER POINT, TX — Harrison Kothmann, the general manager at Big Country Equipment in San Angelo, has been making a difference after flooding in the Texas Hill Country with his actions and words.

Kothmann took a crew and equipment to help with the cleanup and recovery efforts from the deadly July 4 floods that have claimed more than 130 lives.

The Mason High School graduate has also made some moving posts amid the devastation of the flooding, and those posts have reached tens of thousands of people online.

A video from July 11 when he was in Center Point has been shared more than 10,000 times. After it was shared by a page called Texas Hill Country on Facebook, it has received more than 75,000 likes.

Texas Hill Country’s page owner called Kothmann a hero.

“Harrison and his team were able to help recover 27 victims from the flood and help families find some kind of solace and peace. You, sir, are my hero. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to you and your team for bringing so many of us hope, through some very dark days,” the Texas Hill Country post stated.

Kothmann spoke in his video about the impact of seeing so many people come together to help strangers.

“There are so many good people down here that are working and are trying to find the missing. And there are so many donations and resources, people bringing food by and fuel by. … People are stopping their whole lives to come help.

“It takes an army of resources to get this done.”

Kothmann said that though there’s no longer hope to find any victims alive, the recovery efforts can still help their families.

“At the end of the day, these families’ lives will always be different. They’ll never be what they were, and we can’t change that. But as Americans and as Texans, we’ve come to this site here to make it better. So keep on praying. People are really appreciative of it, and it’s helping. And we’re finding those lost loved ones, and we’re going to bring them home.”
