SAN ANGELO, TX — Superior HealthPlan has committed more than $700,000 to support community hygiene closets in Texas, aiming to help families struggling to afford essential personal care items.
The initiative provides free access to products such as diapers, deodorant, shampoo and laundry detergent and is currently active in 20 communities statewide, including San Angelo.
Superior launched the program during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and expanded it following positive feedback.
"To date, Superior has provided more than $700,000 in funding to support this important resource in many of the communities we serve," said Susan Mills, senior vice president of population health and clinical operations at Superior HealthPlan. "As some families continue to struggle with buying basic supplies, this initiative has been a lifeline for communities all across our state."
In San Angelo, the hygiene closet operates at the Concho Valley Council of Government - Area Agency on Aging, 5430 Link Road, with upcoming dates scheduled for July 24, August 28, and September 25, all from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Additionally, Superior HealthPlan is sponsoring bingo events at the San Angelo Clubhouse, 404 South Irving Street, on August 28 and September 25 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The initiative addresses a gap left by programs like SNAP, which does not cover personal care products, and serves the needs of nearly 3.5 million low-income Texans.
Since 2020, Superior has contributed $11.9 million in grants, sponsorships and employee giving across Texas to support low-income communities.
