San Angelo Native’s Body Discovered in Kerr County Flooding

KERRVILLE, TX — Steve Edwards, who was born in San Angelo and came back home to retire, died in the July 4 flooding in Kerr County.

Edwards, 72, and his wife, Marilyn, were camping in their RV along the Guadalupe River in Kerrville when the floods hit, which have claimed the lives of more than 130 people, with about 150 still missing.

Marilyn was rescued and has since returned home after recovering at a hospital, but Steve’s body was reportedly found 37 miles downstream.

Steve and Marilyn were married for 51 years. They spent much of their life in the Permian Basin due to Steve’s career in the oil and gas industry. They came back to San Angelo after he retired in 2012.

According to Steve’s obituary, he and his wife had twin daughters, Allison and Courtney, who both live in Austin.

He enjoyed ranch life and listening to Wall High School football broadcasts. He was also a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, where a memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, followed by lunch and fellowship in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

A private family burial will take place at 1 p.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
