SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Elks Lodge #1880 will hold its annual Flag Day Ceremony on Saturday, June 14 at 4 p.m., according to an announcement issued by the lodge.
The event will take place at the San Angelo Elks Lodge, 2121 S Chadbourne St, with American Legion Post 572 partnering for the observance.
A community potluck dinner will follow the ceremony, and attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite dish or dessert.
The event honors the longstanding tradition of Flag Day, formally designated in 1907 by the Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and made mandatory in 1911. In 1949, President Harry Truman—himself a member of the Elks—signed a proclamation establishing June 14 as a day of national observance for the U.S. flag.
The Elks Lodge emphasized the patriotic roots of the ceremony and extended an invitation to the public to join in the celebration.
The San Angelo Elks lodge has contributed more than $4,283,530 to the local community since it received its charter.
With over 800,000 members and nearly 1,800 Lodges nationwide, Elks are providing charitable services that help build stronger communities across the United States. The Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, helps Elks build stronger communities through programs that support youth, serve veterans, and meet needs in areas where Elks live and work.
