New Lift Station at Lake Nasworthy to Boost Wastewater Capacity 'Fivefold'

SAN ANGELO, TX — A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at 1800 South Concho Drive to mark the near completion of a new lift station at Lake Nasworthy, a major step toward improving wastewater infrastructure in the area.

The project, funded through $11.5 million from the Lake Nasworthy Fund approved by voters in 2019 and supplemented by City Council bond funds, is expected to significantly increase wastewater handling capacity and support future development around Lake Nasworthy and the San Angelo Regional Airport.

According to city officials, the Lake Nasworthy pipeline is approximately 95% complete and is scheduled to be commissioned within 60 days. Once operational, the new system will increase capacity from 500,000 gallons to 2.5 million gallons per day.

The infrastructure replaces a decades-old, piecemeal sewer system that relied on a single, unprotected pipeline and a patchwork of 26 lift stations and 106 grinders. The improvements include two cased mains to minimize environmental risk and provide backup during maintenance. A new trunk main is also in place, with the potential to consolidate the current lift station system from 26 down to six or eight.

Total construction costs for the Lake Nasworthy Wastewater System Improvements project are estimated at $31.6 million.
