SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University's Mayer Museum will host its first "Night at the Museum" program of the new year on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the Mayer Museum at 2501 W. Ave. N.
Night at the Museum will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free and open to community members of all ages. For this installment, ASU will join with members of the local Asian American community to co-host a celebration of the Lunar New Year and Year of the Snake.
The Lunar New Year is widely celebrated in China, South Korea and Vietnam. Related Night at the Museum activities will include:
- 5-6 p.m. - Chinese Calligraphy Demonstrations with ASU Professor Ben Sum
- 5:30-6:30 p.m. - Virtual Reality Tours of countries that celebrate Lunar New Year
- 6-7 p.m. - Tai Chi Demonstrations led by ASU Professor Randy Hall
Other family-friendly and educational activities scheduled throughout the evening include:
- Lunar New Year Displays and Games by ASU's Korean Student Association
- Chinese New Year Activities - red envelope tradition, mandarins, games and more
- Snake Display by ASU Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society
- Snakes Showcase by Mad Mouse Zoodio
- Interactive Mayer Museum exhibits
- Current contemporary art exhibits
On a related note, ASU's cafeteria, "The Caf," will be serving Korean food from 5-8 p.m., including tteokguk, bulgogi and pajeon, buffet-style at a cost of $11.40 per person.
Subsequent Night at the Museum events will be offered on Tuesdays, March 4, and May 6.
