AUSTIN, TX — After leading the Texas Longhorns to within a game of the national final in back-to-back seasons, quarterback Quinn Ewers has reportedly declared for the NFL Draft.
Ewers threw for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns with 12 interceptions while completing 66% of his passes in 14 games this past season.
Ewers rates as the No. 5 overall QB in the draft, according to ESPN’s longtime draft expert Mel Kiper.
His departure clears the way for Arch Manning to take over as the Longhorns’ starting QB.
Manning, the nephew of two-time Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning, was the No. 1 QB recruit in the nation. Texas fans have been clamoring to see him on the field, despite Ewers losing only five games the past two years.
In limited action last season, Manning was 61-of-90 passing for 939 yards and nine TDs with two INTs. He also had 25 carries for 108 yards and four TDs.
