SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and Cultural Center has announced the recipients of the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet awards.
The event, scheduled for September 16, 2024, will feature a keynote address by Dr. José Hernández , a former NASA astronaut, and will honor individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted the community.
Dr. De León has been awarded the Carolina Angela De La Garza Dewitt Legend Award for his notable contributions to the preservation and promotion of Hispanic culture and history. His work includes the influential publications “They Called Them Greaser” and “San Angeleno,” which have left a "lasting legacy in San Angelo."
Rosendo Ramos will receive the Captain Albert Tijerina Jr. Trailblazer Award for his exceptional achievements in mariachi music education. His dedication to nurturing young talent and establishing successful mariachi programs is highly regarded.
The Eva Camuñez Tucker Service Award will honor Lena Rivera for her work in cultural education and community service. Rivera’s innovative teaching methods and dedication to preserving Hispanic traditions have made a significant impact on local youth.
The event will also recognize Bentwood Country Club with the Mi Amigo Special Recognition for its continued support of the museum’s Dia de los Muertos celebrations and community engagement efforts.
Carol Santry will be celebrated with the Mi Gente Special Recognition for her lifelong commitment to bridging cultural divides through language and education, enriching the community in the process.
