SAN ANGELO, TX — On Friday evening, shortly before 7 p.m., a severe fire broke out in the 600 block of N Parkway St. In response, the San Angelo Fire Department swiftly dispatched three pumper trucks and Ladder 7 to the scene. The location, near the intersection of N. Howard Street and the Houston Harte Expressway access road (Dallas St.), saw firefighters arriving within moments of the emergency 9-1-1 call. Despite their rapid response, the flames had already escalated, reaching four stories high by the time they arrived.
Local residents reported that the fire was preceded by a loud explosion emanating from the rear of the affected house. Witnesses said the homeowner had been working on a motorcycle when an apparent fuel overflow occurred during ignition, leading to the rapid spread of the fire.
In an effort to control traffic and ensure safety, police issued an advisory to avoid Howard Street near the Houston Harte Expressway. The blaze was visible from several blocks away, drawing attention from across the neighborhood.
Initial speculations from neighbors pointed to the motorcycle in the garage as the fire's origin. Fire Marshal Billy Clemons said his team is thoroughly investigating the incident from all possible angles and isn't ready to talk about the fire's origins.
A total of four fire trucks, including Ladder 7, were deployed to combat the inferno. Firefighters utilized hydrants up to a block away to supply the hoses needed to fight the blaze.
The fire's epicenter was the detached garage behind the main house, which suffered extensive fire damage. According to officials, the intensity of the fire escalated rapidly, posing a significant challenge as firefighters worked to prevent its spread to adjacent properties.
The American Red Cross is currently assisting the affected family with temporary living arrangements. The house, now in need of extensive cleanup and repairs from smoke damage, remains uninhabitable in the aftermath of the fire.
