Major Section of Southwest Blvd. Closed June First

SAN ANGELO, TX – Traffic on Southwest Blvd. from Loop 306 past McDonald's will be detoured for two months beginning Tuesday, June 1 for major road reconstruction of the low water crossing over the  Red Arroyo.  

According to city officials, work is scheduled to begin on the Southwest Boulevard low water crossing near McDonald’s on Tuesday, June 1. This work will take approximately 60 days, pending any potential weather delays. During this time, access from the Loop 306 frontage road to Green Meadow Drive and the rest of the Southland neighborhood will be closed. Access to the businesses will still be available from the frontage road. Southwest Boulevard is open from Green Meadow Drive to Twin Mountain Drive.

Stormwater improvements being made to the low water crossing include installation of larger conveyance structures, raising the roadway 2.5 to 3 feet, and channel improvements from Southwest Boulevard to the Loop 306 frontage road.

Please observe traffic controls in this area for posted detour routes. Temporary traffic signals will be installed at the Twin Mountain Drive and Knickerbocker Road intersection to help facilitate the anticipated increase of traffic while this closure is in effect.

This low water crossing has been a known problem for some time; extensive flooding occurs in this area because of the current drainage system, resulting in damage to the roadway.

The choice to begin this section of the project on June 1 centered around school being out for the summer.
