SAN ANGELO, TX - After the horrific head-on crash that occurred during the early Sunday hours, family and friends of one of the deceased have reached out to San Angelo Live asking for assistance in raising awareness of the fundraising efforts to help the family of Airianna Martinez.
The San Angelo Police Department has not officially released the name of the second driver killed in the head-on crash, but family and friends have confirmed that 17-year-old Airianna was the driver of the Ford Escape.
As she was driving home from work, she was hit head-on by a 21-year-old male driving a Chevrolet SUV who was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the Houston Harte Expressway.
Airianna was a senior at Central High School and according to friends she had been recently accepted to Angelo State University as an undergrad. She was a dedicated student and a hard worker, juggling her job and AP and dual credit courses. Airianna was employed at Hidalgo's West on Sherwood Way. According to the restaurant they are currently accepting donations and in the coming days will have more information on how those wishing to make a donation can provide aid to the family.
San Angelo ISD did not confirm Airianna was the student killed in the crash, but they did release the following statement:
