Groundbreaking Friday for New Historic Bronze Statues Downtown

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The public is invited to a groundbreaking Friday for two new bronze larger-than-life statues depicting Historic Beginnings of San Angelo’s Lady in Blue and Jumano Brave that will be place in Bart Dewitt Park on the Concho River downtown.

Organizers have planned a three day celebration May 18 - 20 including a Musical Ballet, a conference and the unveiling of the statues.

According to information from Historic Beginnings of San Angelo, the Lady in Blue was a 17th century nun from Agreda Spain who appeared to the Jumano Indians in the San Angelo area.  Last year, world renowned bronze sculpture artist Vic Payne was chosen to cast the bronze statues and will be on hand in May when they are installed and revealed to the public.

The groundbreaking is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday evening at the site along the Concho River behind the old Western Mattress building at 141 E. Concho.  Fore more information, call Tilly Chandler at 325-949-5642 or go to www.ladyinblue2018.com.
