Forecasters with the NWS say freezing fog is possible again tonight and early Friday. According to weather.gov, patchy freezing fog could develop once again overnight leading to slick roads, bridges and overpasses.
Much colder air is expected for the weekend. New Years Eve and New Years Day will be rather cold with low temperatures in the teens. High temperatures will not be much better in the mid 20s to low 30s. A slight chance for wintry precipitation will be possible for New Years Eve, mainly north of a Brownwood to Sweetwater line.
SAN ANGELO, TX -- Take a heavy coat with you on New Year’s Eve, forecasters expect temperatures to drop into the upper teens early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, Temperatures definitely continue to look VERY cold for New YearsEve through Tuesday. Freezing/frozen Precipitation is still a bit of a question, though.
We will see a bit of a warmup for Friday with highs reaching into the 50s and 60s and a little bit of sun. The warmer temperatures will not last, however as a surge of Arctic air heads back into
the area by Saturday. Looking for highs only in the 40s across the northern half for Saturday, with falling temperatures through the afternoon.
Overnight lows will dip into the mid 20s across the Big Country and 30s in the Concho Valley. Just like this last event, we could see a little light precipitation with the front and just behind it on Saturday night and during the day on New Years Eve.
Forecasters are still keeping just a little precipitation in the forecast for now but it seems to be confined to the north and east, with some mention of freezing/frozen precipitation. With such a difference in models, though, confidence is low, but worth mentioning considering the holiday.
Even with no precipitation, the bitterly cold temperatures in the teens New Year`s Eve and the morning on Monday could cause problems for pipes and livestock. Monday`s highs expected to remain below freezing generally in the 20s. We may finally get above freezing briefly by Tuesday afternoon, with a slow warmup (40s) as we head toward the weekend. Keeping the forecast dry after New Year`s Eve.
Be sure to wrap outside faucets and provide a place for outdoor pets to get in out of the cold. Temperatures in the teens can be deadly for pets and people too.
