SAN ANGELO, TX-- A sinkhole caused by a water main break gave some San Angelo residents a headache and early start to their Friday.
Around 6:00 a.m., on Friday morning, crews from the City of San Angelo were dispatched to the 2700 block of Oxford Dr. in response to the water main break. The main break subsequently caused a sinkhole to form in the middle of the road, forcing crews to cordon off the section of the street affected by the hole and divert traffic from that stretch of Oxford.
Allison Strube, Assistant Director of Water Utilities for the city, says "services are impacted on Oxford from Sul Ross to A&M." Strube also estimates that repairs to the road will be made in "approximately three hours."
Crews for the city had to knock on doors to alert residents to move their cars out of fear of the sinkhole growing and swallowing the vehicles.
We'll update you throughout the day as repairs are being made.
Update, 11:53 a.m.: City of San Angelo Public Information Officer Anthony Wilson has said the leak is fixed. Repairs to the hole have not been made, yet.
