After Weather Delay, San Angelo's Largest Fireworks Show Begins Tonight at Dusk

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake Nasworthy Homeowners’ Association confirmed the annual Lake Nasworthy Fireworks display will commence tonight after getting delayed last evening due to weather.

“Please help us get out the word that last night's fireworks, cancelled due to the weather, are rescheduled for tonight, July 5. Just after dusk. (Weather permitting of course),” wrote organizer Theresa Cortez in an email early this afternoon.

The fireworks show was delayed until tonight due to a line of thunderstorms that blew into San Angelo just after 7 p.m. Winds peaking at 55 mph and blowing rain followed by rain showers made conducting the fireworks show last night dangerous.

So, the homeowners decided to delay the show by keeping their powder dry.

Tonight, $25,000 worth of mortars will be fired into the evening sky. The mortars are located on the south side of the lake on the spillway side of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge that spans across Lake Nasworthy.

The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon and into the evening.  As of 3:30 p.m., San Angelo was situated inside a gap between showers around it. Rain showers to the west and northwest have persisted this afternoon, NWS said. There are also new buildups to San Angelo’s southeast near Live Oak and Eden.

So far, there has not been a uniform movement of rain showers towards San Angelo. Winds are forecasted to be relatively calm at 6 p.m. just prior to the fireworks display, blowing out of the east to southeast at just 6 mph.
