SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said the fire may have been intentionally set. “We have reports of an intentionally started fire,” he said. “We’re getting more leads and talking to witnesses.”
Because investigators have not been able to inspect the inside of the home, Coleman did not say where he thought the fire originated. “We’re waiting for the heat to lift,” he said.
Coleman described the approach the firefighters took when combating the fire. Because the structure was “fully involved,” meaning completely engulfed in flames, firefighters made a “defensive” approach and fought the fire initially from the outside. There were as many as 24 firefighters attacking the blaze, Coleman said. LIVE! saw three pumper trucks and Ladder 1 working the fire.
There were no injuries and Coleman said one person was in the home at the time of the fire. “We’re talking to that individual right now,” he said.
The time of the 9-1-1 call was 12:50 p.m., Coleman added.
The fire as it happened:
At approximately 1 p.m., the San Angelo Fire Department rushed to fight a fully engulfed structure located at a residence in the 400 block of E. 21st St.
