This afternoon, several Ballet of San Angelo (BSA) students presented their works to a panel of judges. The judges then chose several pieces to be featured in BSA’s May production "Director’s Choice Intros." The choreography jury was held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ballet Studio located at the 82 Gillis St.
Twelve upper level students of Ballet San Angelo (BSA) have spent the past semester creating and teaching their choreography to fellow students, read a BSA press release.
The twelve students have worked with a mentor on staff to receive guidance on music and movement style choices, however, they have been solely responsible for creating the movement and running their rehearsals.
Contestants will explain their inspiration and music choice, as well as what their production, lighting, and costuming ideas are. After each piece is presented, the panel will choose six of the pieces to be featured alongside the main choreographers’ works in the show "Director’s Choice Intros" on May 12th and May 13th.
The other six pieces will be featured in Ballet San Angelo’s end of the semester's Student Showcase on May 18th. This process not only encourages the students to grow in both their creativity and their art form, but also encourages personal growth in leadership, organization, and presentation skills.
The BSA hopes that the community will get to know these local dancers better through the performances of their works. For more information about BSA, visit their website at www.balletsanangelo.org or their social media sites.
