SAPD: Buckle Down & Stay Strapped in Seat Belt Survey Results

SAN ANGELO, TX - As a part of Buckle Down & Stay Strapped In, approximately 665 seat belt observations were conducted in San Angelo during the month of February.

Results indicate that the overall seat belt use rate is 94.9 percent. This is 4.2 percent higher than the state average of 90.7 percent, 7.9 percent higher than the national average of 87 percent, and 1.8 percent higher than San Angelo’s October baseline of 93.1 percent.

February’s surveys took place in five locations in the area. In addition to the general use rate data, findings showed the following:

  • Women – 95.8 percent
  • Men – 93.8 percent
  • Highest Age Group for Belt Use: 60 +
  • Lowest Age Group for Belt Use: <24
  • Highest Vehicle for Belt Use: Van
  • Lowest Vehicle for Belt Use: Pickup Truck

Approximately 644 seat belt observations were conducted in San Angelo during the month of March.

March results indicate that overall seat belt use rate is 95.3 percent. This is 4.6 percent higher than the state average of 90.7 percent, 8.3 percent higher than the national average of 87 percent, and 2.2 percent higher than San Angelo’s October baseline of 93.1 percent.

March’s surveys took place in five locations in the area.  In addition to the general use rate data, findings showed the following:

  • Women – 96 percent
  • Men – 94.8 percent
  • Highest Age Group for Belt Use: 60 +
  • Lowest Age Group for Belt Use: <24
  • Highest Vehicle for Belt Use: Pickup Truck
  • Lowest Vehicle for Belt Use: Van
