A press release from Angelo State University would like to recognize one of its own professor of psychology, Dr. Sangeeta Singg.
Sing has been rewarded the Outstanding Leadership in Psychology Award from the Psychological Association of Greater West Texas (PAGWT) at the organization’s Nov. 4 meeting at Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo.
The press release stated, “the award was presented by Dr. Jarvis Write, one of the founders of PAGWT and its first president. Singg is the current president of PAGWT and will continue in that position in 2017.”
The award reads, “since 2010, for seven years, Dr. Sangeeta Singg served professional psychological in West Texas by organizing and administering the largest geographical are psychology society in the state. She arranged outstanding professional development programs and coordinated resources within the mental health community to provide meeting places and participation incentives. She spearheaded political action drives that promoted professional excellence in the provision of mental health services to the citizens of Texas. Members of the Psychological Association of Greater West Texas Genuinely thank dr. Singg for her Outstanding Service and Leadership.”

Singg began working at ASU in 1981. Sing teaches both undergraduate and graduate psychology classes in the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work. Singg also developed the graduate counseling psychology program and served as the program director.
Along with teaching, Singg has published 35 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has made more than 100 presentations at professional conferences. The press release stated, “[Singg’s] diverse and interdisciplinary research interests include post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, childhood sexual abuse, memory, alternative preference and color therapy and the role of nutrition in physical and psychological wellness. She also serves on the editorial board of several industry journals.”
Honors and awards of Singg’s include:
- ASU Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award
- ASU President’s Award for Faculty Excellence in Leadership/Service
- Phi Delta Kappa Research Award
Singg was named a “Top Psychologist in San Angelo Woman to Watch” by the San Angelo Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Along with winning awards, Singg is active in the community. She has served on the board of the local American Heart Association of 32 years, including the four terms as president, and was founding member of the original San Angelo AIDS Foundation.
The press release ended by saying, “a native of the Punjab state on India, Singg holds a bachelor’s degree in Punjab University, a master’s degree from Mississippi State University, and master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling psychology from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce). She is also a licensed psychologist, a certified applied clinical nutritionist and a purification and weight loss coach.”
