SAPD: National Weather Service Flood Advisory in Effect

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - Okay, San Angelo citizens, it's that time again. The San Angelo Police Department has issued a flood advisory alert per the National Weather Service of San Angelo, which means drivers want to avoid low water crossing areas.

As drivers have proved time and time again, it's best to turn around and not drown, or rather, stall a vehicle.

According to the NWS of San Angelo, the flood advisory is for northwestern Tom Green and Irion Counties in West Central Texas. The warning is in effect until 2 p.m.

"At 9:31 a.m. CDT, Doppler Radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms across much of Irion County. Radar estimates 1 to 2 inches of rainfall has fallen across portions of the area, and an additional 1 inch of rainfall is possible," said the NWS. "This may cause minor flooding of low lying areas, low water crossings and roadways."

In another alert, the NWS said that, as of 12:02 p.m., thunderstorms continue to affect much of Tom Green County. Although there will be a decrease in showers and thunderstorms, 1 to 2 inches of rain has fallen across the area, and there is minor flooding in low water crossing areas.

  • San Angelo
  • Wall
  • Orient
  • Vancourt
  • Mereta
  • Grape Creek
  • Mertzon
  • Veribest
  • Harriet
  • Carlsbad
  • Barnhart
  • Arden
  • Sherwood
  • Tankersley and US-67 near the Irion-Tom Green County Line

Low water crossings include:

  • Jackson from Knickerbocker to S. Bryant
  • College Hills and Millbrook
  • Howard and Webster
  • Southwest Blvd and Loop 306
  • Huntington and Sunset
  • 1500 block of Spaulding
  • 300 block of North Archer
  • FM 1692 crossing the draw
  • Sul Ross at Red Arroyo Crossing
  • FM 1692 Crossing Concho River
  • Ranch Road 859 Crossing West Rocky Creek
  • Ranch Road 853 Crossing Middle Concho River
  • Ranch Road 853 Crossing East Rocky Creek
  • RM 853 Crossing Dry Draw
  • Burma Crossing
  • Post Oak Crossing North Concho River
  • County Road 202 Crossing Spring Creek
  • County Road 202 Crossing Lopez Creek
  • Crossings Along County Road 302 and Sherwood Cemetery Crossing

"Do not drive through these low water crossings, or any other low water crossing with water flowing across the roadway," said NWS officials.
