San Angelo, TX – It's Labor Day weekend, and St. Mary’s annual festival starts early Saturday morning. The whole weekend will be filled with activities and fun for the whole family.
The festival will begin with a Brisket Cook-Off competition. The event will begin at around 5 a.m., and participants are able to register at the beginning of the competition. The cost of registration is $100. There will be a first, second and third place winner selected.
Additionally, this year will feature the first annual Washer Pitching Tournament. There will be awards for first, second and third place, and it will be double elimination. The entry fee is $50. Local venders will also be on site with arts and crafts as well as music provided by a DJ.
The Jamaica will officially begin on Sunday at approximately 11 a.m. There will be game and food booths selling hamburgers, tacos, funnel cakes, churros and aguas frescas. Three bands will also provide entertainment from 6 p.m. until midnight. The Tequila Brothers, Reload and the AT Boys from Austin will play Sunday night.
Brisket plates will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost will be $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The booths will be closed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., but the fun and games will resume at 5. Entrance into the festival will be free to the public.
The annual raffle winners will also be drawn on Sunday at 8 p.m.First place will be the lucky winner of a 2016 Rockwood Freedom Series Pop-Up Camper, valued at $9,000. Second and third place winners will be the recipients of $500 Visa cards; the fourth place winner will receive an iPad Air, and the fifth place winner will receive a set of four St. Mary’s Fleece Jackets. Winners do not need to be present to win.
