Angelo State University will host its 12th annual Phil George Blue & Gold Dinner and Auction to benefit ASU athletics. The event will be held Friday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Junell Center and Stephens Arena on 2235 S. Jackson St.
A silent auction and cocktail hour will open the event, with dinner served at 7:15 p.m. Dinner includes complimentary wine and beer. The meal will be followed by the highly competitive live auction. Auctions at the event in the past have exceeded 300 items; these items include jewelry, sports memorabilia, sports equipment, trips, original art, apparel and gift baskets.
Tickets are $75 per person, or $135 per couple, for the entire evening. They are on sale now through the ASU Office of Development. Reservations can be made by calling 325-942-2116. Updates on the event, including photos of this year’s auction items, will be available at the Angelo sports website.
The Phil George Blue & Gold Dinner and Auction provides funds for scholarships, recruiting and support programs for ASU student-athletes. The event is named for ASU’s legendary former coach and retired athletic director Phil George, who led the San Angelo College basketball team to eight Pioneer Conference titles and the 1957 National Junior College Athletic Association Championship. In addition to basketball, George coached track, baseball, golf and the football offensive line. He coached several notable athletes, including former ASU and Baylor head football coach Grant Teaff and 1961 American League batting champion Norm Cash.
Crockett National Bank is the title sponsor of the event for the fifth consecutive year.
