San Angelo's Miguel Flores-Acton To Compete in National Golf Championship

Miguel Flores-Acton is an amazing golfer for an 11-year-old boy. He is also an honor roll student at Lamar Elementary School. He has many hobbies, including playing guitar, robotics, solving Rubik's Cubes, playing soccer, and golf where he excels.

Golf is his natural talent, but he is also a hard working kid who constantly practices to get even better.

“Putting was easy and I just kinda got it, but chipping was pretty hard until I came and practiced it a bunch,” Miguel said.

Practice is paying off because he won his region by a remarkable 46 points ahead of any other competitor in the Drive, Chip and Putt competition. So to say he is good at golf is an understatement.

“I’m good at chipping, so it isn’t the hardest; but I’m not that tall so driving can be pretty hard since I don’t have height on my side,” said Miguel.

He has traveled to most parts of Texas to play golf competitively. Now, he will get to travel all the way to Augusta, Georgia where he will play and compete on one of the most prestigious golf courses in the world.

“He never gets nervous; he is always very calm, even in competition,” said Natasha, Miguel's sister.

Miguel has a family standing by him and supporting him all the way.

“He just loves this sport and plays for fun. It is time he gets to spend with his dad and playing a sport he loves,” said Miguel’s mom, Guimel Acton.

Miguel’s mom, dad, sister, and coach, Jason Hase, traveled with him to Augusta, Georgia yesterday, April 1, to compete in the Drive, Chip, and Putt National Championship.

“I just want to have fun and enjoy the experience, but I won’t be nervous.” Miguel added about his trip to Augusta.

In Augusta, Miguel will get to meet his favorite pro golfer, Bubba Watson.

“Bubba Watson is so cool, and he’s a lefty, like me!” Miguel said excitedly.
