Traffic signals at four San Angelo intersections have been upgraded to include flashing yellow arrows for left turns. The new signals are at:
- Sherwood Way and Buick Street.
- Sherwood Way and Sunset Drive.
- Sherwood Way and Southwest Boulevard.
- Southland Boulevard and FM 2288.
San Angelo’s first flashing yellow arrow traffic signal was installed in September at Sherwood Way and Beauregard Avenue. The concept remains the same as a green ball signal for a left turn. That is, while the yellow arrow is flashing, drivers should yield to oncoming traffic.
The new signals, which replace signals with green arrow and green light phases, is meant to better direct traffic. The yellow arrow traffic signal, now mandated by federal regulations, is equipped with a sign that advises motorists, “Left Turn Yield on Flashing Yellow Arrow.”
