Adobe Signs Donates "In God We Trust" Decals for Tom Green County Sheriff's Patrol Vehicles

“In God We Trust” is written on currency, license plates, and now, every Sheriff's Department vehicle in Tom Green County. Adobe Signs donated “In God We Trust” stickers to the Sheriff's Department, and on Thursday morning, owner Peggy McElrath was given the honor of placing the first sticker on a department SUV.

Sheriff David Jones stated, “We were approached by Adobe signs and they said they would provide, free to the county, the 'In God We Trust' signs, so we accepted that. It is our national motto and we are proud to display it. We just wanted to thank them for the offer to do that.”

McElrath said, “They had called us and asked us for the pricing on it. Back during the summer, we had done the stickers for Korby [Kennedy] for the police department and [we realized] we hadn't done anything for the Sheriff's Department, so I just said, 'Let me donate it.'”

Sheriff Jones noted, “It's been the Attorney General's opinion that says that this is not a violation of any constitutional provisions and we are proud to say 'In God We Trust.' We firmly believe that. It might be different for other people. It may not be the same God we worship, maybe they have a different one; but it should mean something to everybody.”

“It says 'God,' it doesn't say which God,” added McElrath.

Jones said it was nice when Adobe approached the department that they would donate something.

“The funds weren't available right now for us to do it on our own, so it was very nice for [McElrath] to do that," he said. "She has provided enough so that when we get our new vehicles in, it will be available for those too.”
